【Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty】Theme Song

I’ve waited for a long time, hoping that the gate of hope would open
Do you know that as long as my body is present, my love will always be?
Forbidden willow can only admire the freedom that wind enjoys
Ocean can only envy the way dust flies
Waiting for forever,
Waiting even with grey hair and deep wrinkles

Playing the strings with hatred
Who will hear the snapping of strings
Why should a woman grieve for her own sorrow
Thousands of days have passed
Though couldn’t bear, I can only leave with tears
Time flies ruthlessly
Old buildings with red paint and green tiles have been replaced
Pity me, let me exist with my undying love

I’ve come for you, multiple lives
All I wish was to be part of your life
May it be a dream, I’ll willing to never wake up

I’ve come for you, my love
And my love is expressed in the most gentle words
Life is short but I’ll love you forever
Never changing

Every life, may the seas evaporate and rocks disintegrate
All for you.

Translated by PinkOlifant.

Umi!

For I did not watch the drama, I have listened to this song for not less than fifty times. Reason being, I do not wish that my understanding of the lyrics be skewed by the plot of the drama. After listening, I find that the kind of undying love expressed in the song can rarely be found in our realistic society, and that could be the reason why people love this kind of dramas happening in olden times.

Upon receiving the song request, I was uncertain and worried that I could not express the beautiful words in the song. Therefore, the one-month wait before the translation of this song is finally done. Sorry for the long wait, Umi!

  1. OMG, words cannot express how thankful I am for your translation. During the Lunar New Year holiday I’ve read a lot of translations for this song in my native language, but I’m not quite satisfied. Yours is truly the most poetic with how you conveyed the metaphors and layers of meaning, I feel like crying while reading it. Not watching the drama is a good decision, it will probably leave you as frustrated as everyone was =)). Once again, 非常感谢您, thank you so much for your effort, I really appreciate it. Hope you’re doing well and keep yourself healthy during this troublesome time.
